These are a great choice for anybody who prefers additional cushion and waterproofness for short or long hikes.

Hoka Tor Summit Review

The Tor Summit stands out as an Alpine-inspired item, paying tribute to the classic hiker boot. It is more than just a shoe; it is a statement of functionality and style. Hoka has taken the spirit of traditional hiking boots & reimagined it for the modern urbanite.

Best Hoka Shoes: Let’s Have a Look!

First Impression

At first look, they are honest-looking hiking shoes.  Its grey blue &  black looks are modern.  The surprise yet is its featherweight feel, at just 350gms, much lighter than it looks!

I took the Hoka Tor Summit boots on a hit out in hot and rainy conditions.  Grip would be a main issue, as well as stability on the uneven terrain.  The boot has 5mm lugs, plenty for hiking and is made with hard Vibram composite material for durability. With its hyper-cushioned sole, I was concerned that it may throw out my sense of the ground beneath me.  This was not the case at all.

I easily steered the hilly & rocky terrain & felt surefooted as a packhorse.  On flatter terrain, I noticed the minor sensation of heel-to-toe momentum.  It makes the HOKA Tor Summit have what they call a ‘Meta Rocker’. It promotes the natural forward motion of walking.

Superior Comfort

Hoka understands that if your feet are not comfortable, all other features of your footwear matter little. This shoe is the snuggest model, with a thick insole, a soft & spongy tongue, good arch support, & a fatty midsole and outsole mixture. Rocky, bumpy, spiky terrain is not a problem while cruising in these shoes, & our feet felt fresh hike after hike. The toe protection is not strong. With our feet raised higher on the uber-thick soles, we were less likely to stub our toes.

The lacing system is easy, with five sets of metal eyelets for the flat-style laces. It is easy to tighten the laces as desired, & the supple leather upper does not resist snugging up against the foot. The cushioned tongue helped us to tighten the shoes tighter than comfortable on other models.

These shoes absorb shock better than the other competitors. For hopping boulders, they are the best. Despite the leather uppers, they were breathable. Taking off our shoes after the treadmill test, there was hardly any dampness in our socks. Our feet did not overheat or sweat freely hiking in this pair.

We value comfort in a hiking shoe. The Tor Summit provides comfort all day long, even with a heavy pack. It got nudged out of the top spot for comfort, but this shoe is still one of our favourites and one of the most comfortable shoes in the test.

It is furnished with Hoka’s signature cushioning, confirming every step is comfortable. This technology makes the shoe ideal for spontaneous outdoor adventures.

The Tor Summit offers a well-cushioned ride that is supportive and balanced. I sometimes carry a 20-pound pack and I never felt like the shoe was being overpowered.

With trekking shoes, comfort is king.  I have found the HOKA Tor Summit delivers that, & I can certainly see them improving with wear.

Premium Materials and Design

Tor Summit is created from the finest materials. The premium nubuck leather gives the shoe a luxurious feel & undeniable durability. This high-quality leather guarantees that the Tor Summit is stylish and rugged enough to withstand the elements, whether on city sidewalks or mountain trails.

Every face of the Tor Summit is accurately designed. The metal eyelet hardware adds a touch of superiority & strength, guaranteeing the laces stay secure. The zig-zag stitching on the heel & tongue webbing is an artistic choice & support that speaks to the shoe’s rough heritage.

The rubber mudguard is an addition, protecting the feet from moisture & debris.

Support & Traction

These shoes have a comparatively thin insole, but they also have built-in arch support. I never experienced any instability. The foot is cuddled in the midsole for extra stability.

The standard laces are sufficient for securing a good fi. The foam midsoles held up seamlessly over long days, & these might work well for multi-day journeys.

The addition of the Vibram® Megagrip outsole is a game-changer, offering an unparalleled grip and stability on several surfaces, a feature that hikers & city walkers will appreciate.

Weight and waterproofness

This shoe is big but not heavy! It weighs just over 1 lb 8 oz for a pair of women’s size 7. It is not the heaviest & delivers excellent cushion and waterproofness. The Tor Summit initially felt bigger & heavier than it is because of its oversized outsole. After a short distance, yet, this feeling went away. I enjoyed the lightweight feels under these ultra-comfortable hikers. Its weight is within one ounce of six shoes, so it is not off in outer space.

The Tor Summit is waterproof. It has one of the tallest uppers of all of the shoes (3 3/4″), which helps keep water out when splashing over streams and puddles. The Tor Summit features an eVent waterproof membrane. It did not leak in any backcountry stream crossings. Water beads off this shoe well.

After significant use, the upper started absorbing water along the layer of the toe abrasion guard & the leather.I am satisfied with the water resistance of this model.

Durability: I always prefer long lasting

I experienced zero durability issues with the Tor Summit. The majority leather upper took all the mishandling we put it through in stride. There is little protection around the toes & the sides, though, when compared to models like the Salomon or Keen models. These high-wear areas are prone to breakdowns in any hiking shoe & is a point of potential failure down the road.

The soft rubber in the center column of the outsole is also vulnerable to wear. While these shoes may not hold up to the most aggressive abuse, they should last several miles on easy to moderate trails.

I love Hoka Tor Summit for Versatility

From day hiking to short backpacking trips, this shoe will not let you down. It offers excellent comfort on any trail. i often compare this model often to beach cruiser bikes — it can go fast but tends to just cruise. The soft soles feel unresponsive, and deliver less spring in each step in comparison to other models. For a more agile, aggressive model, check out the La Sportiva Spire GTX.

Several folks with knee joint issues or who wear orthotics claim in their online reviews that these shoes lessen pain experienced while walking.

Not only suitable on a trail, the Tor Summit is great for anybody spending days on their feet at work. The thick soles of this pair draw attention around town, but the comfort may be worth it. For something more subtle around town, but still comfortable, check out the Vasque Juxt
