Hoka Mach 5 Review: A versatile daily trainer Shoe

There is a saying that Hoka Mach 5 is the lovechild of Mach 4 and Mach Supersonic. This iteration is a revolutionary comeback in the Hoka line-up. Lighter than before with natural and responsive features in terms of stability and cushioning.

It has a supercritical midsole layer, “ProFly+™,” and updated fitting, which is more comfortable than Mach 4. They have varieties for men and women. Instead of an extra heel pull tab, it has an articulated heel collar, which provides a more secure fit.

This version of Mach is ultralight and delivers super breathable comfort because of the Creel jacquard-engineered mesh upper surface. One can go for long and leisurely recovery runs even in summer.

Strategically placed early-stage Meta-Rocker technology reduces the difference between toe and heel drop, providing a rolling motion into the sole like a wheel. On the other hand, this exceptional technology helps the foot get a soft landing and speedy kick-off while running; on top of that, it naturally shifts the weight for productive running.

Mach 5 Technical Features

Molded EVA sockliner- Mach 5 has a double layered sock liner on the top of it ProFly+, and on the bottom, molded EVA foam. This unique feature gives a more cushioned and responsive ride every time. In addition to it, this foam helps to keep the shoe lightweight.

Rubberized EVA outsole- EVA is a synthetic material, precisely a type of flexible plastic. It is helpful in the footwear industry, especially in shoe sole making. It has the character to absorb shocks and provide a rubber-like feeling and flexibility.

Lay-flat gusseted tongue- This is an assembling process of the shoe. Hoka Mach 5 is a running shoe, and this gusseted tongue keeps the lace away from the runner’s feet and protects from debris getting inside the shoe.

Is Mach 5 run Big or Small:

It is not apparent, though it varies from person to person. Hoka recommends If someone prefers a more secure fit, it is better to go one or a half size down. However, Hoka runs true to the size if you have narrow to standard feet with lower volume.

On the other hand, some shoes are narrow through the toe box. They have more comprehensive options available. If you have wide feet and struggle to choose the right size, go for a half size up instead of selecting from comprehensive options.

Someone says the Hoka Mach 5 suits flat feet because of the roomy toebox. Also, flat laces provide complete lockdown, and the light padding through the collar and heel creates strong but gentle comfort without causing rubbing issues or hot spots.

Buying Tips:

In the first place, select a shoe that has solid ground.

Due to the curved bone structure in our feet, the shoes with arch support prevent many further foot conditions. So, it is essential to check and pick that the shoe has arch support.

The lace-up feature is the right choice because this style provides the most secure-fitting lace.

  • Buy for your foot type and comfort level.
  • Replace old, worn shoes.
  • Be intentional about high heels.
  • Get help when you have pain.
  • Do not buy shoes based on looks alone.
  • Have your feet measured while standing.
  • Try both shoes and walk around the store.
  • Do not buy shoes that you need to break in.
  • Do not rely on the size of your  last pair of shoes.

If the shoes feel too small, try a size larger, even if it is bigger than the size you usually wear.
