Construction

The durable rubber outsole gives the Hoka Arahi 6 a rugged look. The outsole combines with the J-frame and CMEVA foam to provide a cushioned ride. Many runners also appreciated the breathability of the engineered mesh upper.

Hoka uses rubber in the Clifton 9 outsole, too. The pair solely depends on the cushioned midsole to give you a stable ride. Also, the CMEVA foam supports a softer running experience. You will find it breathable for a knit mesh upper.

Cushioning

Protective cushioning is a key feature of Hoka Arahi 6. You will find it responsive when running. It maintains toe-off during faster runs. However, the pair feels less cushioning than the Clifton 9 for the 35mm heel-to-stack height.

As mentioned, the Arahi 6 is designed with J-frame midsole technology. Such a design guides the midsole component to provide stability and support. Simultaneously, the technology supports cushion and weight to provide a comfortable running and walking experience.

The Clifton 9 is a neutral shoe. This way, it doesn’t provide the same stability and support. However, like other neutral shoes, the Clifton 9 helps transition feet from landing to toe-off. Thus, running with them feels convenient.

Pronation Type

Does your back foot roll inward when running?

If yes, then you may be pronating. No worries; this is not a serious issue, and special attention is unnecessary.

The Hoka Arahi 6 is a stability shoe suitable for overpronators. Its J-frame technology prevents overpronation and ensures a stable ride.

Inversely, the Clifton 9 lacks a pronation-control feature as a neutral shoe. So, it becomes an ideal choice for feet with low or flat arches.

Grab the Clifton 9 if you want a comfortable shoe for all-day standing. The CMEVA foam will keep your feet fatigue-free. Also, the breathable knit mesh upper breathes well. Conversely, the Arahi 6 retains more heat in the upper. So, it becomes less suitable for extended periods of standing.

Walking

The Clifton 9 will be your walking companion due to its lightweight construction. Also, excellent cushioning absorbs the impacts and shocks, giving you a softer feel. The Arahi 6 also feels comfortable but has some rigidity in the midsole. So, this pair is a good option for leisurely walking.

Running

As mentioned, Arahi 6 is designed for overpronators. You will get the necessary support and guidance when running and wearing them. On the flip side, the rockered shape of the Clifton 9 encourages stable transitions while giving a bouncy ride with soft landings.
